AFIO is a national organization of about 2500 members, with a smaller number active at national conventions and local chapters. It is not necessary to be a former intelligence officer to join, as long as you support the principles of the organization. Some journalists have joined just to get the membership directory, hoping to find retired officers willing to grant an occasional interview or comment on various issues. If an entry appears with an AFIO citation, it usually means that an address is available for that person. Members also have the option of withholding their name from AFIO directories.
To save disk space, the several annual directories in NameBase were entered to avoid redundancy. Citations to directories and directory updates prior to 1996 were deleted if the name also appears in the 1996 directory.
Search the NameBase site: While the best way to search for names is to use NameBase, most can also be found here by using only first and last name, separated by a single space, with no quotation marks.
